midterm post!

When I signed up for this class I didnt know that it would be community based writing. However It does not matter to me, this class has been really fun and enjoyable. My past writing classes have always beem writing about a certain topic, but no thought was ever put into it. In this class my opinion matters and I have my own thoughts i can put on paper. Although at times I do think this class is a challenge. because I have never had to write about these topics, it is all new and I am learnign alot from it. I knwo I hvae writing issues and problems that I need to work out but hthis class is just the begining of my new an dimporved writing skills. I have always been slef conciuos of my wriing, because in High School I would get bad grades on my papers. So now I am just strarting new and with the help of this class I hopefully will be more comfortable and better with my writing.

revelation:)

Every Friday I wake at 7 and have to go babysit the whole day. The children I babysit for are fun, adorable, and smart!! One is a little boy just over a year old, the other is a 4 year old downsyndrom gril. Because of her needs she is more around the mental stage of a 2 yr old. Today as I got home, my brother in a joking way( he really isnt a bad person:))said hwo was babysitting the "retard". Now after I heard this i flipped out at him!! Now as I am older and am actually interacting with a special needs child, I am completly offended and alarmed by this. We were alwasy tought to never say "retard" as a adjective to describe someone. Now everytime someone uses it in that text, I tell them not too. This little girl, is the cutest smartest, helpful child. She even uses sign language for words she doesnt know because her speech is not that developed yet. This experioce just shows how sometimes it takes and event or interaction to know what is right na dwrong. Now i relize how horrible it really is to say that. This is an amazing oppportuity for me to be working with her, she has tought me alot also:)

MLK

MLK was a terrific writer and knew how to express himself through his words in writing. "Letters From A Birmingham Jail" has many good qoutes found throughout, and I would liek to share a few. MLK made multiple outstanding qoutes throughout, but oene that stood out was when he said " We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hatefull words an dactions of the bad people but for the appaling silence of the good people" As a child i always learned to not just stand there when someone is being picked on. You are doing just as much damage not saying anything than being the one hurting him. Martin Luther King Jr. makes that perfectly clear in this sentence. ANothjer one that cought my eye was "oppressed people cannot remain oppressed forever" This is a qoute full of home and freedom. just by those few words. I took form that sentence that after awhile when things are rough, there will always be somethign within pulling you up,and make you strive for more. Especially back then, the africans had nothign to live for, but soon the thgouht of freedomand justice became alive in them and somehting to fight for. MLK's words are inspiring na dcan be realted to much today as well.
